Severe asthma is a distinct and debilitating condition affecting 3-10% of asthma cases. Approximately 50% of severe asthma patients suffer from uncontrolled symptoms. Despite this, many patients face long delays and a difficult journey from diagnosis to disease control. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) caregivers report a loss of work hours due to treatment, with some carers providing up to 35 hours of support a week and others having to leave employment. As the prevalence of advanced CKD increases, the emotional, physical and financial challenges placed on family members and friends in the caregiver role is likely to increase.
